How Hemp Protein is Queen + a Post-Workout Shake Recipe

A couple years ago I went vegetarian & had no meat or dairy for about 6 months. That’s another story for another day, but let’s just say I learned a lot & it was a positive experience.

I’m not vegetarian anymore by the way. No big deal, just didn’t work for me. Maybe I’ll do a post on it?

Anyway, I went on a mission to find a plant-based protein powder to make post-workout shakes.

I researched sooo many protein powders online and learned a ton. I also learned about what I did NOT want. Things I did not want: nasty ass chemical fillers, fake sugars, or anything that wasn’t absolutely necessary.

I’m picky about it. I don’t need cookies & cream flavored chemicals, you know? That just grosses me out.

[SIDE NOTE] Can’t tell you how many times a guy has told me that his post-workout shake is the best ever and “really does” taste like cookies & cream … HA it always tastes like it has nasty ass chemicals in it…

I’d rather have a banana-flavored shake that is flavored from the actual REAL banana that I added myself!

But hey, if you like that stuff, then go for it! Maybe it works for you! I just don’t have the highest quality diet a lot of the time, so I like to make sure that any supplements I use are pristine. I just share what works for me.

Anyway, I fell IN LOVE with this beautiful earthy green protein called HEMP — Nutiva brand to be exact.

[STUDENT BUDGET TIP] I’m signed up for Nutiva’s Tuesday Deals emails, which let me know what the sale of the week is. Sometimes I get lucky & this hemp protein is on sale & it can be a better deal than Amazon ;))

Take a look at the nutrition in 1 serving of this stuff:

  • Iron 40%
  • Zinc 25%
  • MagnesiYUM 60%
  • Fiber 8g
  • Protein 15g

Plus it’s:

  • Vegan
  • Non-GMO
  • & in a Non-BPA container

Also, it only has ONE INGREDIENT: “Organic Hemp Protein” is exactly what the label says.

I’m in love with it & with the Nutiva brand in general. I love what they stand for & all of their products I’ve tried so far have been amazing.

I mentioned my go-to post-workout protein shake in My Simple Everyday Breakfast, but I wanted to really highlight it here. This post-workout shake is Queen:

Post-Workout Hemp Shake

  • Almond milk
  • Hemp protein, I use 2 spoonfuls
  • Cinnamon, a few shakes
  • 1 banana

Blend all ingredients!

This is seriously the best & cleanest-tasting protein shake ever. I always recommend it when people ask me about protein, and I see myself using this stuff for the rest of my life! Yup, I can just see 85 year old me strolling along the beach, hemp shake in hand, perfectly happy with the world.

Sometimes I’ll have this shake for a quick lunch, and then I’ll usually add some peanut butter or walnuts, just to add some calories & more fat to fill me up :))

One of the best parts about this shake is the small amount of ingredients it needs. Plus, for me, almond milk, cinnamon, and bananas are pretty much staples so I always have those.

[NUTRITION TIP] Add a banana to any smoothie/shake to add 3 grams of fiber & for a natural sweetener ;))

Hemp Shake

I’ve been gearing up for PTCAS, the PT school application, to open up on July 1st and getting everything ready for it, so it’s been a little crazy for me lately. This perfect little shake has been a quick & healthy fix for me when I’m fitting in other important tasks into my lunch hour: like a mini-workout or much needed stretching session.

I’m off to bed so I can get up early for work tomorrow!
Would love to know…

Do you use hemp protein?
What do you add to your post-workout shakes?

p.s. I’m not sponsored by Nutiva (or any brand) so anytime I talk about something I use on my blog, it’s simply because this is my life & these are honestly things I LOVE & use everyday.

I play all day on Snap & Twitter!

Come say hi :))

  1. Solid stuff! I’ve never been much into protein shakes and the like. All the one’s I’ve had tasted like death so I just trudged along without it. Nice recommendations, they sound to be more pleasant 🤙🏼

    1. Hey fabi :)) I’m not sure. I see this shake as a healthy dessert (even though there’s no added sugar) so I prob wouldn’t add veggies — maybe try spinach because it’s easy to mask it. I usually add veggies (leafy greens & celery) to my green smoothies for a bunch of fiber, vitamins & minerals, and just for a ton of nutrients all at once! But def let me know if you add anything to the hemp shake & how it goes ❤
