One thing (out of many) I’ve learned from applying to Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs is just how much writing is involved.
There are big life questions that need to be answered in ways that I have never put into words before. And I have to answer them in 300 or 1000 or 4500 characters depending on the program.
That’s another thing I’m learning — how to edit & cut extra words to make a point.
Essay questions are things like, “What is professionalism in the context of being a student in a doctor of physical therapist degree program?”
Or “What would have to happen in your life for you to be a success?”
That was probably my favorite. Answering it felt natural. And knowing the answer to that question is huge. There are so many things I want to do so it helps me focus on a direction, you know?
All of the essay writing and editing and rewriting has given me a ton of blog post ideas. And it’s kind of been a surprise — who knew that the more I wrote, the more ideas I would have for future writing? Who knew that writing more would spark even more desire to write?
I’m so excited to share what I’m learning through the application process! Let’s just say the whole thing has been…an experience. Like surprises left and right.
I kinda feel like it’s just getting started though…
The DPT app isn’t scary — it’s just my life
I’m realizing that the “application” isn’t a form to fill out, or an essay to write. It’s more like life in general. I’m realizing that my life for the next year or so is going to be my “application.”
Basically what I choose to spend time on will be the building blocks of my DPT application.
It’s a good thing. It is helping me plan things like volunteering, observation hours, and even social media.
Going forward, I hope documenting this will help other students like me trying to figure out this whole application/life thing.
So, do you know YOUR answer to this question?
“What would have to happen in your life for you to be a success?”
It’s pretty personal right?
Try it on your boyfriend. Get a little intimate.
Anyway, I missed blogging & it feels good to be back. I’m off to study some physics and listen to as much Christmas music as possible (instrumental only, no words plz).
can’t wait to catch up <3
