5-Points Friday

Mini-wins and the GRE, 5-Points Friday

5-Points Friday is a new series I’m doing to wrap up a week’s worth of lessons learned, healthy snacks, and little bursts of what I’m up to. It’s also a progress report of how I’m becoming a top contender for PT school. Enjoy!

update on classes I’m taking —

This semester I took Medical Terminology and Anatomy & Physiology 2. The coursework was nowhere near as hard as last semester (read about that little whirlwind here), but I did struggle with time management. That was probably the biggest challenge: just balancing work, volunteering, blogging, my group exercise teacher training, and these classes. With that being said, I made it through & got my A’s that I needed! (At this point I pretty much need all A’s to be competitive). So, tonight I’m going for tacos & margaritas to celebrate. Too ready for this.

most popular tweet —

Dr. Ben Fung is a PT who does it all! He is one of the first people I started following on Twitter, and he is huge in the PT community. I recommend seeing what he’s up to on Snapchat too! Among all the huge things he has going on, he does a YouTube show called Relate in 8. It’s an 8 minute video about communication, relationships, leadership, health, and even salary negotiation. So, even if I wasn’t into PT I would still watch! My most popular tweet this week was when I shared his video about a Must in his marriage: Saying Please & Thank You.

MVP reader comment —

Remember when I mentioned considering Warby Parker glasses? (Details/results coming soon!). Anyway, Chrissey, left a comment on that post recommending an alternative, so I thought I’d share it here. BTW: she is a recent Biological Sciences grad & the beauty and brains of The Unabridged Sass, my favorite beauty blog! She also gives beauty recommendations on Snap: chrisseybui ! Here is part of the comment she left:

“YAY FOR FIVE POINTS FRIDAY COMING BACK. First things first I have to highly recommend Eye Buy Direct! They’re inexpensive but REALLY high quality glasses! My favorite pair from them is $7. I found them when I was contemplating splurging on Warby Parkers three years ago and I’ve been an avid buyer since! I’ve had countless pairs from them and even buy back ups because they’re so inexpensive. Some of their styles are exactly the same as WP but for a fraction of the cost! I highly recommend them because their frames are stylish but also budget friendly!”

quote I’m reflecting on —

“If you don’t have a way of serving people, nobody’s going to trust you. Not today.” – Dr. Greg Todd

GRE discovery I made —

If you follow along on Snap, then you probably saw me making a PSA about this because I had to let the world know! Most PT schools require the GRE to apply. I am about to register to take this for the first time, which also means paying $205…Well, I knew the price of the test, but what I didn’t know is that it also costs money to send your GRE scores to the schools you want to apply to! I will get to have my scores sent to 4 schools for free, but after that it is an additional $27 for 4 more schools. I’m thinking I’ll apply to 12-16 schools, and end up paying $54-$81 to send to extra schools. Ugh.

I’m off to tacos & margaritas with the boyfriend tonight. I have been working a bunch of extra hours since my last final exam so I am more than ready! I can’t wait to celebrate the end of another semester, and another milestone closer to becoming a top contender for PT school.

Did you take the GRE? How did you prepare?
Do you celebrate the mini successes, as well as the big successes?

I play all day on Snap & Twitter!
Come say hi :))

  1. I took the GRE many years ago. I studied like hell the summer before I took it to brush up on some things but honestly who knows if that helped. I took the biology specialized test and felt like there was just so much to know it was impossible to know it all. Best of luck to you!

      1. It was crazy hard since biology is such a broad subject. I finally came to the conclusion when I was taking it there would be no way I could ever know it all, so I just did the best I could. I’m sure you’re do great!

  2. Wait where have I been the last few months!? AHHHGG I LOVE YOUR POSTS!!! I can’t believe I haven’t been active!!! Okay, okay, I’m ashamed of myself! And way to go for that semester! 🙂 xxxx

  3. Hi Jess!
Great job on another strong semester! I hope you are having a wonderful summer. Goodluck on your GRE prep! I haven’t taken it yet, but I probably will have to if I decide to pursue PT.
I definitely love to celebrate the small wins. It is what keeps me motivated and moving forward especially when I am struggling.
