5-Points Friday

Warby Parker and Knee Replacements, 5-Points Friday

5-Points Friday is a new series I’m doing to wrap up a week’s worth of lessons learned, healthy snacks, and little bursts of what I’m up to. It’s also a progress report of how I’m becoming a top contender for PT school. Enjoy!

splurge I’m considering —

I am in need of new eye glasses. Nice ones!

The ones I have now are grandma glasses and never see the light of day. I’ve needed some for a while now, but every time I start trying some on, I realize that the price tag is the price for only the frame. I still have to pay for the lenses?! Lol bye.

I decided to do the Warby Parker Home try on.

Basically you go to their website, choose 5 pairs you like, and they get sent to you for free – I didn’t even have to pay shipping. It’s also free shipping to send them back after trying them on. Ultimately, I decided to try this route because the glasses will only cost $95 (including the lenses!).

I’ll have to update you guys when I get the glasses, and if I end up committing to one. BTW I’m not getting anything out of this from Warby Parker – no discount/special offer/whatever – I just want to let you guys know how it works out for me. (p.s. these photos are from the Warby Parker website. I’ll take my own when they arrive!)

physical therapy memorable moment —

I have been volunteering at the same clinic since February now, which means I’ve almost been there for 3 months! I love the idea of spending more time than usual at a PT clinic because now I’ve gotten to see patients arrive at the clinic on their first day and watch them progress until they are discharged.

I’ve also seen a patient come in because he was scheduled to have a knee replacement, so he was seeing a physical therapist for Prehabilitation before surgery.

The research shows that if a patient works on prehab strengthening exercises before a knee-replacement surgery, then they will be better off after the surgery.

It was pretty cool getting to see the beginning and end of this patient’s treatment in the clinic. He was always in pain walking around and doing exercises.

Then, I got to see him after his knee replacement surgery, and he was in pain doing certain movements with his leg, but it was because of the scar from surgery – not the actual knee. He said, “It’s so nice not to feel pain in my knee anymore. It’s been years since I’ve had no pain in my knee.”

quote I’m reflecting on —

“Every second you spend thinking about what someone else has is taking away from time that you could create something for yourself.” — Gary Vaynerchuk

research that’s inspiring me —

Now let’s stay in the knee-replacement lane, but branch out a bit.

I know we just talked about a successful knee-replacement surgery, but this article is about an alternative to that surgery.

These doctors are using the person’s own stem cells from their body and injecting them back into their knee where they are somehow allowing the knee to grow more cartilage to heal & repair itself.

The researchers are from the world-famous Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.

[FUN FACT] This research is being done back in my hometown: Pensascola, FL. The Andrews Institute is a famous facility for not only research and treatment, but also high performance sports training too! Also, if you’re planning a visit to Pensacola, let me know and I will direct you to some local favs. It’s not a big city, so it’s the perfect beach getaway.

  1. YAY FOR FIVE POINTS FRIDAY COMING BACK. First things first I have to highly recommend Eye Buy Direct! I am going to DM you a $10 credit referral because it is my go-to place for glasses. They’re inexpensive but REALLY high quality glasses! My favorite pair from them is $7. I found them when I was contemplating splurging on Warby Parkers three years ago and I’ve been an avid buyer since! I’ve had countless pairs from them and even buy back ups because they’re so inexpensive. Some of their styles are exactly the same as WP but for a fraction of the cost! I highly recommend them because their frames are stylish but also budget friendly!
Also, my office snacks were cucumbers and hummus! I’m kind of always worried about coworkers eating my hummus so I always bought the little sealed cups! Chips and sealed salsa was also a fave!

    1. Omg I have never heard of eye buy direct, so thank you thank you thank you for that!! My Warby Parker home try on box gets here soon so I’ll have fun w/them when they get here, but def won’t buy any until I’m done shopping around. So glad you told me about that!
And I actually haven’t brought cucumbers to work yet! Lol I totally get the sealed hummus thing btw. So many great ideas all in one comment :)) Thanks Chrissey 💕

      1. You’re so welcome!! I’ll send you the pics of my EBD glasses that get here today! And sealed hummus is a MUST lol. I had coworkers that would always low key eat other people’s foods!

  2. I can’t wait to see your new glasses on you! 🙂 I have 20/20 so I don’t get to really choose cute glasses, but once I get older, I will he trying out all types of glasses. LOL. I’m weird. 🙂

    1. Thank you, I’m excited to try them all out! Weird = awesome :)) your future plans for glasses is similar to mine & my hair — I don’t get it colored bc I’m afraid of damaging it but when it goes gray I’m def getting JLO hair!

  3. Hi Jess!
It’s super exciting that you are investing in a good quality/ stylish pair of glasses! I have been getting my glasses from 39 Dollar Glasses and they are $39 for the frame and lens. I have been pretty happy with my glasses from there, but they aren’t the fancy designer brand.
A good pair of glasses is like a sassy pair of panties, they give you that nice extra boost of confidence :).
I am so amazed with the rapid advancements that are taking place. The fact that we can grow cartilage and also organs is so amazing!!!
I hope you are doing well! I always enjoy reading about your adventures!!!
    ❤ Alana Xoxoxo

    1. Hi Alana!! Always so good to hear from you :)) I need to do an update post from this one because I actually went with Eye Buy Direct after Chrissey recommended me! She also gave me a referral credit to use so it was great. Also, since I ordered from them, I got a credit too so I can pass it along to you if you ever want to try them. Just lmk ;)) && I will def check out 39 Dollar Glasses! Lol and I agree 100% – I feel muuuch sexier in my new glasses compared to my old granny ones Ha.
Also, yesss that article was crazy — I had no idea we could do that!
Thanks for reading & hope all is well ❤
